Ok, seriously this time...

When Dave Feltham is blogging more regularly than I do, there’s a serious imbalance in the force going on, so without further adieu, I hereby announce my return to my blog!

Sometime this coming saturday morning, Miriam and I will stuff lots of crap into our car, strap Lochlan into his seat, and head off to the great green north for a week of cottage R&R, and I’m looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time.
Obviously there’s no question that a little R&R, hanging with the boy, fishing, and general low-pressure atmosphere is tops on the wanted list these days, but at the same time, it always seems like theres never a good time to take a vacation from work. I’m cramming to get things in order before I leave, and I’m 100% positive I’ll be cramming when I get back given all the shifting going on around the workplace these days, coupled with the insane mountain of work we’re all facing in the coming months.
Like seriously, it’s so bad that there’s this top secret project that most people in the company don’t know anything about for lack of having signed the multiple different NDA documents to even be given a sliver of a clue as to what’s up, and it’s basically taken half of our development team into its clutches for the next couple months, leaving myself and our new developer to “hold the fort” ... against a hoarde of oncoming new work and the ever-present threat of support for existing projects.
Ah well. C’est la vie, as they say … At least I’ll be able to tune out for a week up on a lake and know that I’m quite likely out of blackberry coverage range and even if I wanted to be in touch with the office while I was away, it likely won’t happen anyhow :)
On another work-related note, I’m likely moving into my new office space upon my return from the cottage. Sorta mixed feelings about that one as well, since I arguably occupy the sweetest spot in the building right now and it’s hard to say goodbye to the windows and the view, but on a more positive note, I’ll be a little closer to the rest of the development gang again, and have decided that I’m actively going to pursue the installation of an aquarium in my new space to counter-act the fact that I’ll be loosing all my prime window space and thus likely will have to find new homes for all my plants as well :(

Ok – so, ummm… it’s been a few months since I last wrote anything on the blog. Same old sob story: been very busy, and spare cycles to put towards writing have been hard to come by.
LOTS has happened with Lochlan over the past months… it’s been simply amazing and inspiring watching him slowly put the pieces of the basic puzzle of operating his body together. We’ve done lots of work in the basement, to the point where the new room off of my office is very nearly complete. The web contracts are finally starting to wrap up after a blistering 6 months of very long days and nights for me. I’m hoping the end of March brings with it the end of my contract work for a while too. Things are looking good on that front. And, I’m pretty sure hell froze over at some point between now and then because I can’t believe I’m actually writing something right now. Of course, it won’t be the 80-page saga that is deserved to catch up on the past months, but at least it’s something.
We’re all still alive and kicking here. I honestly believe that I’ll have more time to slowly pick up the writing once again over the course of the next few weeks as work commitments wind down finally.
So, to those that keep up via RSS, glad to see you’re still around, and sorry to those who connect “old-school’ with regular check-ins, as I’m pretty sure I’ve totally lost you by this point :)
Until next spare moment….

So Lochlan officially turned 5 months old yesterday and he marked the occasion with a bold new step in his development. As if following-up to my recent ‘Hey, I can flip myself over’ news, last night Lochlan not only flipped from back to front once again, but also managed to reverse crawl/slide himself across the hardwood floor in the dining room approximately 2-3 ft. from his play mat before getting frusterated with the colder climate and poor bar service at the other side of the room.
This would technically qualify as his first, non-gravity-assisted, self propelled journey of any significant distance :)
At this rate, I’m expecting to wake up tomorrow and find he’s in Mexico …
P.S. Did I mention he now also drinks bathes himself via his own sippy cup?
